چکیده

Materials and Methods: The graft materials were assessed for bone healing efficacy in the athymic rat posterolateral fusion (PLF) model. This model has been extensively characterized to ensure that there are not instances of spontaneous fusion, and instead that the fusion results from the osteogenic, osteoconductive and/or osteoinductive nature of the graft materials. The transverse processes of the L4 and L5 vertebral body were exposed and decorticated. The defect site was then filled with either the test article (BLX Putty) or autograft. Due to the size of the defect and the similarities among the strain of athymic rats, the iliac crest from multiple donor rats were morselized and placed into the defect to represent an autograft control.

Lifenet Health Readigraft® Blx Dbm Putty versus Autograft in a Critical Sized Calvarial Defect Study

Materials and Methods: An 8 mm calvarial defect was created in the athymic rat and filled with either the test article (BLX Putty) or autograft. This model is a well-established and validated model for testing the osteoregenerative capacity of bone substitutes wherein an 8 mm defect in the rat calvaria will not spontaneously heal without treatment. The test article was provided in ready-touse a...

• The Performance of a Sterile Demineralized Bone Matrix Putty in a Rabbit Posterolateral Fusion Model

INTRODUCTION: Bone fusion, such as in spinal surgeries, may be accelerated through the use of a bone graft substitute (BGS). While autograft was considered the gold standard of treatment, it can be undesirable for use by surgeons due to donor site morbidity and limited availability. As an alternate method of treatment, human allograft Demineralized Bone Matrix (DBM) can be used by surgeons eith...

Radiographic analysis of fusion success with Integra Collagen Ceramic Matrix, as compared to autograft use, in posterolateral lumbar spine arthrodesis

Study Design: Retrospective, single center, non-randomized study. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of Integra Collagen Ceramic Matrix (Collagen / β-TCP Composite) bone void filler in posterolateral lumbar fusions. Methods: All patients treated with Integra Collagen Ceramic Matrix (CCM) putty and/or strip during posterior or transforaminal lumbar fusion surgery between April 2007 – December ...

•Evaluation of a Freeze-Dried DBM Formulation as an Autograft Extender in a Posterolateral Lumbar Fusion Model

INTRODUCTION: Iliac crest autograft is considered the gold standard graft material despite limitations in the quantity available and potential complications associated with harvesting procedure. These disadvantages have motivated clinicians and investigators to seek alternative graft materials to extend, enhance and/or substitute for autograft. Examples of such alternatives include: allografts,...

A prospective randomized study of posterolateral lumbar fusion using osteogenic protein-1 (OP-1) versus local autograft with ceramic bone substitute: emphasis of surgical exploration and histologic assessment.

STUDY DESIGN A prospective, randomized and controlled study. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the osteoinductive property of Osteogenic Protein-1 (OP-1 or BMP-7) and fusion rate in human instrumented posterolateral lumbar fusion through radiographic examination, surgical exploration, and histologic assessment. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA The use of osteoinductive agents is a current topic in spinal fu...
